about Beverly Risk

Hey, I’m Beverly. I’m a dating and relationship coach who believes that relationships are messy, complicated, deeply human - and that sometimes you just need someone who can help you make sense of the mess. I’ve spent much of my life being the person friends come to when they need relationship advice. The “What the hell does this text mean?” conversations. The “Am I overthinking this?” conversations. The “I know this relationship isn’t working, but I don’t know what to do next” conversations. I’ve always been fascinated by the way people connect, communicate, attach, misunderstand one another, and occasionally make things way more complicated than they need to be. Eventually, I realized that this wasn’t just something I enjoyed talking about - it was something I wanted to build into a real practice. So, what exactly do I do? I help people navigate the parts of dating and relationships that don't come with an instruction manual. That might mean helping you figure out what your dating profile is actually saying about you, working through a confusing conversation, rebuilding your confidence after rejection or a breakup, figuring out what you actually want from a relationship, or helping you communicate more effectively with the person you're already with. And sometimes, you just need somewhere to say, *“Okay, what the fuck is happening here?”* without being judged for it. That's where I come in. My coaching style is honest, practical, compassionate, and completely judgment-free. I’m not here to tell you what you should do based on some universal rule about dating. I’m here to help you understand your situation, look at it from different angles, identify patterns, and make decisions that actually make sense for you. No judgment. No bullshit. No pretending. Dating advice can get pretty ridiculous. There are endless rules about when to text, how long to wait before responding, what someone's three-word reply supposedly means, and whether you're somehow ruining your love life by liking their Instagram story too quickly. I’m not interested in adding more rules to the pile. I believe good coaching should give you more clarity - not more anxiety. That means I’ll be honest with you when I think you're seeing something clearly, and I'll also tell you when I think you might be missing something. I won't shame you for your choices, and I won't blindly tell you that you're right just because that's what you want to hear. Sometimes the most helpful answer is “Yep, that was a bad idea.” Sometimes it's “You're not crazy. That situation really is confusing.” And sometimes it's “You don't actually need to figure out what they're thinking. Let's figure out what you want.”
I'm always learning, too. I believe being a good coach means staying curious and continuing to learn. As I build my practice, I’m planning to pursue certification in positive psychology to deepen my understanding of what helps people thrive and expand the tools I can offer my clients. I also hope to pursue ICF accreditation in the future as I continue developing my education, experience, and coaching skills. I don't believe you ever reach a point where you're simply done learning. People are complicated, relationships are complicated, and there is always more to understand. And that's really what this is about. You don't need to have everything figured out before you come to coaching. You don't need to be perfectly confident, perfectly healed, or perfectly good at relationships. You just need to be willing to take an honest look at where you are and figure out where you want to go from here. Whether you're swiping through dating apps, recovering from a breakup, trying to understand someone who communicates entirely in mixed signals, or sitting across from your longtime partner wondering how the hell you got here - we can start there. Bring the messy stuff. Bring the awkward questions. Bring the screenshots. Bring the *“What the eff?” moments. We'll work from there.
